What is a Lovescope?

Lovescopes are horoscopes with LOVE as the main focus of the reading.  Astrology literally means, Star Logic and is the parent of Astronomy (the science of stars and the physical universe).  All life is unique, and while there are only twelve signs of the zodiac, it's important to note that we are not strictly categorized into just one of those signs, but a combination of signs and interactions, based on several factors.  A horoscope is a chart (or map), that details the position of planets, satellites and stars over a specific area, and at a specific point in time.  Your natal chart is based on the date, exact time and location of your birth.  Influences from planetary alignment in a natal chart are translated and used to gain insight into the personality and destiny of a particular person or animal, etc.  We use the Ptolemaic system, rather than the Copernicus' Heliocentric system to map out where planets, stars, satellites, constellations and asteroids are in relation to the longitude and latitude at an exact, specified point in time.

What's the difference between astronomy and astrology?
Astronomy is a natural science that deals with the study of celestial bodies in the physical universe, the origin and evolution of the Universe, and the physics and chemistry of the celestial objects.  Astronomy literally means, Star Law.  Astrology, which means Star Logic, combines science and metaphysics.  It's the study of how those celestial bodies affect life on our planet.

We know that the Sun and Moon have an impact on ocean tides because of the gravitational pull.  We really only notice it when the Moon is full, but this pull is constant, however it's stronger during the full moon.  The reason is because the Moon is closer to the Earth and they are magnetically attracted to each other.  Thankfully the Earth is able to hold onto everything, except for the water, and so we have higher tides during the full moon.  Every living thing on our planet has a (varying) percentage of mass that is water.  The gravitational effect on the Earth's water would affect all water on this planet, including what's inside of us; no one living thing is as large as an ocean, so it's less noticeable.  The word Lunatic is derived from Lunar, which relates to the Moon, and some believe the full moon brings out the "crazies".  If this is true, then it may be due to the magnetic attraction (the gravitational pull) of our water weight.

Metaphysics is listing the possibilities of a subject that exist (in this case, astrology or horoscopes), and the different ways we can look at them.  In the above example, the Moon (and Sun) affect the water on Earth, so we can ask if the gravitational pull of the other celestial bodies also have an effect on the life-forms of our planet.  We do know that the strength of the gravitational pull is dependent upon a number of things, such as mass and distance; we also know that gravity is the force responsible for keeping the planets in orbit. We can hypothesize that they do affect us, however, the force may be miniscule (due to the mass of the life-form, the mass of the planet where it resides, the mass of the celestial object, and it's distance from the life-form).  Perhaps the best test of astrology would be to see if it can accurately describe the subject (ie: person, etc.) and predict events.  This can't be done with the general horoscopes you find in the newspaper, magazines or even on this site; to be an authentic experiment, you would have to look at your very personal and unique natal chart.  If you find that it's accurate for you, repeat the experiment (using the Scientific Method) by having others do the same, and by using the same Astrologer.

How can astrology be useful?
Understanding your unique natal chart gives you insights into yourself and can be a helpful tool in the way you relate with others, ie: your relationships.  Astrology is loosely based upon a belief in predestination, but the life choices that we make are based upon a number of other variables, and decide our true personality, life purpose and future.  Our astrological traits provide the foundation that we use to begin shaping our personality, and influence the creation of our destiny.  Studying our personal horoscope is helpful because we can then understand what motivates us or our partner, and how we can best relate to them.  So, while the planetary positions may influence personality and destiny, they cannot be an absolute.  Astrology allows us to understand our basic nature and that of others, it predicts the times of life events so we can be forewarned and prepared; it guides us through the rough times, and shows us happy events to come.

What is the zodiac?
The zodiac is the twelve signs (and 13 constellations): Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, ScorpioOphiuchusSagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces, extending about 8-degrees on each side of the Sun's apparent annual path.  It's not the Sun that's moving, but us, doing our annual orbit, and while we are orbiting, it appears that the Sun is passing in front of the different constellations.  Other than their names, signs and constellations have little in common.  Although, everyone identifies their horoscope by their zodiacal sun sign, astrologers don't really use the signs at all, but focus on the astrological aspects.

What are the Houses?
An Astrologist notes the placement of the planets and places them on an Astrological Wheel which is divided into twelve sections.  These sections are called Houses.  Each house governs a particular part of our lives.  The house is ruled by various signs, which dominate influence of that house.  The signs of the zodiac show how the planets express themselves, and the houses show where these energies will appear.

What's the difference between astrological signs and their constellations?
The zodiac is made up of the twelve astrological signs, each measuring 30°; 12 times 30° equals 360°, the measurement of a full circle.  The old calenders, like the Persian calender, comprised 360-days, and was calculated by planetary rotation around the North Star at 1°/day (360 times 1° equals 360°).  Angles can be measured in degrees, and you can easily measure the degrees of your angles using a protractor.  While mythology of the signs and constellations is related, the zodiac belt doesn't correspond precisely with the measurements of the constellations.

Constellations are star groups (or patterns) formed around prominent stars.  They help us to find, remember and differentiate between the stars.  There are eighty-eight constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).  One of the differences between the signs and constellations, are that the constellations are in view an unequal length of time, while signs are fixed, so this is one the reasons that they don't line up; this phenomena is called the precession of the equinoxes (or axial precession).  Another reason they don't align is that they are of different sizes.   Each sign of the zodiac consists of 30-degrees, but their counterpart constellations are of varying sizes:

Aries (24°)

Taurus (36°)

Gemini (28°)

Cancer (21°)

Leo (35°)

Virgo (46°)

Libra (18°)

Scorpio (31°)

Sagittarius (30°)

Capricorn (28°)

Aquarius (25°)

Pisces (38°)

The Constellation: Aries, the Ram
This constellation marks the Vernal (or Spring) Equinox (well, it did a long time ago, but due to the Earth's slow wobble, the equinox now appears in the constellation of Pisces.  Don't worry though, in about 22,000 years, Aries will be the first constellation again).  Aries brightest star is Hamal (Alpha Arietis), which is classified as an orange giant; it's much larger and brighter than our Sun.  The blue-white, second star of this constellation is actually a binary star, Sheratan (Beta Arietis).  Our Sun is between Earth and the Constellation of Aries around April 19 - May 13, give or take one day/year.  You can find this constellation between the constellations of Pisces and Taurus, and it's easy to find if you know where to look.  The best viewing is in the Northern Hemisphere between latitudes 90° and -60°.

The Constellation: Gemini, the Twins
This constellation was named for the male twins of Leda, Queen of Sparta.  The two brightest stars, Castor and Pollux were not twins of each other, but close brothers, with each having a sister as the other twin.  The brothers fought alongside their sister (Helen of Troy) in the Trojan War.  Unlike Pollux, who's Father was the God Zeus, Castor was mortal and eventually died (Castor's Father was the King of Sparta).  Pollux was so very sad to lose his beloved brother, so Zeus brought Castor back to life and the two brothers are stars in the Gemini Constellation.  Castor and Pollux represent the heads of the twins, and the fainter stars around, outline their bodies.  Pollux is an orange giant with a planet 3x larger than Jupiter orbiting it, and Pollux is brighter than Castor.  Castor is actually a sextuplet star system.  Also in this constellation is Geminga, a neutron star, and Mekbudda, a giant super star with a radius that is approximately 220,000 times the size of our sun!  Our Sun is between Earth and the Constellation of Gemini around June 20 - July 20, give or take one day/year.  You can find this constellation Northeast of Orion, and between the constellations of Taurus (to the West) and Cancer (to the East), and it's easy to find.  The best viewing is around the Feast of St. Lucia, (Dec 13 -14), when the gorgeous Geminid meteor shower is gracing our skies.  This is the only major meteor shower that doesn't originate from a comet!  You can expect to see about 150-meteors per hour, and they are slow moving... a truly fabulous show!  As if that wasn't enough, they also increase and become more spectacular with each year.  The best viewing is on a clear night and far from airport or city lights; and a new moon is a major blessing.  Look for the twin stars (the heads) and you should easily be able to see the outline of the Twins; you could also trace the paths of the meteors shooting across the sky, and you will see that they point back to Gemini.

cancer
The Sign: Cancer, the Crab
Cancer is the nurturer.  Those that share this sign are patriotic, domestic and comforting.  Cancer's ruling planet is not classified as a planet... yet, but stay tuned, because one day it will be.  Your ruling planet is actually a satellite and it's our Moon.  Her energy is tender, maternal, mysterious and emotional.  Cancer is a cardinal water sign, symbolized by the Crab, which describes the way that Cancer sometimes retreats into their shell seeking comfort.

The Constellation: Cancer, the Crab
This constellation contains the quintuple planet system Cancri, which has a super earth (this means it has a higher mass than our planet); what's so cool about this super earth is that it's in a habitable zone with temperatures similar to our home planet!  The small and cloudy patch in this constellation is actually a beehive cluster containing hundreds of stars.  Cancer's brightest star is Al Tarf (which means, the eye), is located near the constellation Canis Minor.  The orange giant, Asellus Australis is the second brightest star of this constellation and it's less famous name, which happens to be the longest of all the known names for stars, Arkushanangarushashutu (which means the Southeast Star of the Crab).  Our Sun is between Earth and the Constellation of Cancer around July 21 - August 9, give or take one day/year.  You can find this constellation between the constellations of Gemini and Leo, but it's faint and difficult to see.

The Constellation: Leo, the Lion
This constellation is aptly named because it actually looks like a lion in the sky.  If you look at this constellation and see a slight haze, that would be the Leo Ring.  At times, it can be seen by the naked eye, and if you are able to see it, then you are looking at the byproduct of what is speculated as either an explosion from another galaxy, or from The Big Bang.  Leo's brightest star is the blue-white, Regulus (which means, The Little Prince).  There are several fascinating objects in this constellation.  A few hours after Regulus rises, you will be able see the white star, Denebola (which means, tail of the Lion).  Denebola is easy to see because it burns very bright; it's mass is approximately twice that of our Sun, which causes it's core hydrogen (H) to fuse at a faster rate, and so it's surface is thousands of degrees hotter than our Sun.  Leo also contains a number of bright galaxies!  The most interesting galaxy appears as a light streak from our point of view, but it's actually a spiral, and similar to our own Milky Way!   Our Sun is between Earth and the Constellation of Leo around August 10 - September 15, give or take one day/year.  You can find this constellation between the constellations of Cancer and Virgo; Leo's bright and easy to find.  If you can locate The Big Dipper, then you will see The constellation of Leo just below it.

The Constellation: Virgo, the Virgin
Ginormous Virgo is the second largest of the 88 known constellations (Hydra is the largest), but Virgo is the largest constellation of the zodiac.  Virgo's brightest star is Spica, which is classified as a blue-white and is the 16th brightest star (well actually, it's made up of two huge stars, both bigger than our Sun).  There are thousands of galaxies in this constellation; look for the Virgo Cluster.  It's a collection of thousands of galaxies, and their gravitational pull extends into our own Milky Way.  Also, in this cluster there is a giant elliptical galaxy that contains an incredibly huge black hole at it's core.  At 6.6-billion times the mass of our Sun, this is one of the largest black holes discovered.  Our Sun is between Earth and the Constellation of Virgo around September 16 - October 30, give or take one day/year.  You can find this constellation between the constellations of Leo and Libra, but it's difficult for the untrained star-gazer to find, because it's very large, and it spreads pretty far; plus there is only one bright star, Spica.

The Constellation: Libra, the Scales
This constellation features The May Librids meteor shower, known for it's LOVE, BEAUTY and FIREWORKS!  There are only two Most Beloved Stars in the sky and this is the only constellation that has one of them, Zubeneschamali.  Libra also marks the Autumnal Equinox, when the days and nights are equal, and the Heavens are balanced.  The Most Beloved Star is also Libra's brightest star, and is listed as one of the top 100 Greatest Stars.  Zubeneschamali (Lanx Borealis, which means, The Northern Scale) is also a unique star, because it is the only visible star that is green, and it's a beautiful, deep emerald green.  It's easiest to view this sparkling gem during the summer months in the Northern Hemisphere (it sits high in the sky towards your South).  It's very easy to find Zubeneschamali, but if you have binoculars or a telescope, you will be able to see it's color much better... and it's stunning!    Zubenelgenubi (which means, Magic Sky), is the second brightest star in this constellation, well, it's actually two stars (most likely a binary).  This star is more difficult to see because it sits on the horizon.  Another interesting thing about this constellation is that it contains a star system of at least 6-planets, and one of them is in a habitable orbit!  Our Sun is between Earth and the Constellation of Libra around October 31 - November 22, give or take one day/year.  You can find this constellation between the constellations of Virgo and Scorpio, and it's easy to find if you look for Zubeneschamali.  The best viewing is in the Northern Hemisphere during the summer.

ophiuchus
The Constellation: Ophiuchus, the Serpent Bearer
The name of this constellation come from the Greek word for Serpent Handler (Ophiuchus), and attributed to Asclepius, the great healer.  When the mighty scorpion, Scorpious killed Orion (the Hunter), Sagittarius the Archer, wished to avenge his death, and took aim, pointing his arrow at the scorpion's heart; but, Asclepius healed Orion then crushed the scorpion under his foot before Sagittarius could fire his arrow.  Pluto, who was also known as Hades, the God of the Underworld, complained to Zeus that Asclepius was too powerful of a healer because he could even raise the dead (which obviously threatened the population of Pluto's kingdom).  So Zeus struck Asclepius with a thunderbolt and placed him in the sky; he is the Constellation of Ophiuchus.  The symbol for medicine was derived from Ophiuchus/Asclepius.  It is known as a Caduceus and also The Rod of Asclepius.  The brightest star in this constellation is Rasalhagues, a white-blue stellar giant which is about to become a supernova.  Ophiuchus contains an unusual starburst galaxy, two supermassive black holes and a dark nebula on the brink of collapse.  Our Sun is between Earth and the Constellation of Ophiuchus around November 30 - December 17, give or take one day/year.  You can find this constellation in the Northern Hemisphere in the Southwestern sky, just before the summer ends.  It's easy to locate if you look for Antares (the red heart of Scorpius); you will see Ophiuchus above it (to the left).

What are the elements?
The elements are the building blocks to your basic nature.  Fire and Water signs are driven by emotions, while Earth and Air signs are driven by their intellect.  You will want to consult your natal chart to see where most of your planets are located.  For example, to learn more about how you give and receive love, note where Venus falls in your chart.  It's great if they are all balanced, but most likely there will be more in signs of one element.

Ptolemaic System - This system describes the Earth as the center of the Universe (which means that the Sun, Planets and other celestial objects orbit Earth).  This hypothesis was developed by Claudius Ptolemy and was the universal theory among astronomers until 1543, when Copernicus discovered heliocentrism.  Ptolemy lived in the first century and is one of the most influential astronomers in history.

Heliocentrism - (Helios means Sun)  This system describes the Sun as the center of the Universe (which means that the Earth and other celestial objects orbit the Sun).  Nicolaus Copernicus is credited with developing this theory, but the idea of it has been around since the BC era.  Others before him toyed with the idea of a heliocentric system.  One of note is Aristarchus (of Samos); he developed the idea further circa 300 BC.  In those days, it was considered blasphemous for anyone to suggest that the Earth moved about the Heavens, and any suggestion of heliocentrism went against legal and scientific thought of the time.  Aristarchus' calculation of size and distance of planetary objects, namely the Sun, put forth the argument that the Sun is larger than the Earth, therefore it makes more sense that the larger object would be the one to remain stationery, or rather, rotating on it's own axis.  His work was one of geometric mathematics.  Archimedes published this idea as a study of geometry, but it still was not widely accepted at that time.  These theories were further developed by Copernicus, and has been the universal theory among astronomers since 1543.

Asteroids, Meteors, Comets and Satellites - Asteroids, Meteors, Comets and Natural Satellites are calculated in your birth chart, so here is an explanation of what they are.

Asteroids: Lately, when we hear of asteroids we think only of disaster, but they contain such a wealth of minerals that can be mined, plus there's even evidence that some asteroids may be large and dense enough to hollow out and create homes for us in the future, when humans reside in orbital settlements.  Asteroids are simply planets (or planetoids) that haven't grown large enough to become planets.

Meteors: A meteor is a small rocky particle, or dust that succumbs to the Earth's gravitational pull.  When they hit our atmosphere, they burn up; this is what we see during meteor showers, and what we may call a shooting star (and make a wish!  ).  On those rare occasions, larger meteors will survive the descent to Earth and land; those are called meteorites.

Comets: Comets are just chunks of rock and ice that float around in a cloud until they hit the gravitational pull of a larger object (like a star) and this gives them the push (actually, the pull) necessary to break free of their cloud and head towards the Sun.  Comets are kept in motion by the gravitational pull from the celestial objects it passes (like planets, etc).  Once it's in our solar system, most of the gravity needed to keep the comet in motion is provided by the Sun.  The tail we see is just the evaporation of the ice, and the tail grows in the solar wind as the comet picks up speed (from the gravitational pull of the Sun) in it's travel towards the Sun.

Satellites: Satellites are simply objects in orbit around another object.  We have artificial satellites (for gps, phones, data gathering, etc), but there are natural satellites as well.  The Moon is one of Earth's satellites, and the Earth is one of the Sun's satellites.

Scientific Method is a way to find the answer to a question, or prove a hypothesis (your educated guess for the answer to your question).  Basically, you will perform an experiment and record your observations so you can form your hypothesis.  It's important to repeat your experiment to be sure you have the same results (just in case of inaccuracies, etc.) before changing only ONE factor (which we call the variable).  Now repeat your experiment many times, but change that one variable each time.  If the results of your experiment are consistently equal, then you may want to publish your findings and have others repeat your experiment.

Predestination is like a Divine script that we follow.  One argument against predestination would be that God gave us free will... but the argument is moot, because it could've been our free will to accept the role we chose from that script.  There is another school of thought on destiny, which is that the major (collective and autonomous) work of our lives may be predestined, but we chose it before birth, and we choose the path to reach that destiny (or destination) after our birth, by the life path we decide take.

Precession of the Equinoxes (Axial Precession): We are not just floating around space in a fixed position during our orbit around the sun, we are also spinning (like a top), but with a little wobble.  It's slow, and so the difference is miniscule for short time periods (but necessary for precise calculations); and why the vernal equinox changes with respect to the background stars.

Variables in the formation of our personality could be based upon the physical environment we were raised in, the economic health of the family unit, the belief system we were taught, the size of our family and so many other factors.  We are complicated creatures, but that's one of the MANY reasons we are wonderfully unique.  A Psychic Astrologist can use all the different ingredients that make you who you are, the multi-facets of your personality, and combine that information with your natal chart to draw an accurate conclusion from your reading.

What's the difference between an Astrologist and a Psychic Astrologist?
Astrologists or Psychic Astrologists - Astrology is the study of the relationship between earthly events (and/or living things) and astronomical phenomena, and does not require psychic abilities.  Astrologists use charts based on the mathematical positions of stars and planets in relation to earthly events and births, etc.  They study the influence of those positions in relation to the subject of their chart.  A Psychic Astrologer does those things along with using their psychic gifts to richly and accurately enhance your reading; they use their gifts to provide you with more clarity in reading your natal chart.
